Take a deep breath; the holidays are over, and we get to start all over again! The New Year is a great time to start counting with your preschooler. Day One of the New Year, Day Two and so on. Calendars and counting go hand in hand. Start your preschooler counting with Number One on this cute New Year’s coloring page. Do a little January research on dates you should know with the January Holiday Calendar.

Another way to make counting fun for your little one is with a simple Dot to Dot coloring page. You can hold your preschooler’s hand while you count the numbers together 1 through the end, then color the page. This little Duck will appear with each line you draw together.

Maybe you would like to sit at the computer with your child and do some counting activities together. Here is a collection of great counting games online. While you’re already there, take a peak at this cute counting video. Speaking of videos, part of counting is recognizing rhythms and patterns. We already know that nursery rhymes are a fundamental beginning to children’s education. These nursery rhyme videos present old favorites like you’ve never seen them before.

For even more information on teaching a preschooler to count, read up on methods at Arithmetic for Preschoolers and Surfnetkids’ Learning to Count too. Lots of tips have been collected and presented in a simple format to read up on. Everybody wants to give their child a leg up on math skills. You don’t have to just take our word for it! Learning to Count Reader Reviews contain some counting site suggestions as well.

During the winter doldrums up north, nothing is quite as soothing as bringing some color indoors with a coloring page, or two or three…These dainty elephant coloring pages will help your preschool child love numbers even more. And don’t forget a great counting nursery rhyme: Baa Baa Black Sheep coloring page. Better make sure you have that black crayon handy! While you are coloring and talking about numbers, wouldn’t it be fun to color a beach picture to remind you of summer vacation? This At the Beach coloring page has a few simple beachy items to count and color.

Don’t forget to do some winter crafts together. A preschooler’s understanding of geometry is going to be pretty basic, but snip a few triangles out of folded white paper, and all of a sudden you have snowflakes! For more snowflake crafts, visit Make Play Dough.

Some parents are counting the days before Winter Break ends. But with these fun and simple Internet resources, you can have a great holiday and a great time counting on being together.

Have a favorite resource we overlooked? If you have discovered (or created) a fun, online game or activity for helping preschoolers learn to count, please let us know about it by submitting a Reader Review.
